In Gor, Donatelle is currently in Telnus with her Sister Twilight, living under an Alias to those who do not know her, although her true identity is known to those who knew her in the past.

Yet now there is a reason for her to worry, and she must take action. Twilight has become nervous, panicking and worrying about what will happen if they stay.

So they are now packing up, leaving their home there in safe hands as they travel for a short while, trying to conceal who they are, which means they will have to go to drastic measures…which could backfire if they are not careful…

Where they will go who knows.

Have you ever been struck with the urge to be creative? To make, write or create?

I get these urges often, and when I do, usually I will carry them out. I might paint, or sew, or draw. I don’t believe that you have to be a fine artist to paint, or an expert to draw…it’s the process of putting pen to paper so to speak, and creating something you enjoy.

So I come to Second Life, where hundreds, if not thousands have used this Virtual World to create many things that I consider to be beautiful.

Take for instance Paper Couture, which one of, if not my Favourite Clothes Designer. Their pieces are a “Collection”, last Season the Collection was inspired by Birds, and the Spring ’09 Collection is inspired by Flowers. It’s clear when looking at the pieces that they have been thought about, imagined, and someone has created something that is beautiful, and though it may not be tangible in the real, physical sense, it is tangible in Second Life.

So…what about Creativity and Me in Second Life? At the moment, I am not being creative in Second Life…or am I?

Roleplay is Creativity, and if people put as much work and effort into their Roleplay, and looked at it as Storytelling, then the world of SL Gor and all Roleplay environments would be so much more brilliant.

So, that is what I am going to do. Roleplay and enjoy it!

I have often been struck by the power, or rather the powerful meaning, of a phrase. Phrases such as “He who laughs last, laughs loudest,” or “Fighting Fire with Fire.” In fact, even as a child I would ask what someone meant when they said someone else had a “Skeleton in the Closet,” or a “Yellow Belly.”

And so, I think, began my fascination with them. My Grandmother probably brought it about, as she had a phrase for everything, and it wasn’t necessarily the fact she knew them all, it was the place and time she used them. For instance, she would find herself in an impossible situation, and would simply say “Make Lemons with Lemonade!” and she would then go on the make the most of the situation she was in.

Growing up in Cockney London, I was surrounded by what I suppose are Phrases, “Cockney Rhyming Slang” such as Dog and Bone (Phone) or Apples & Pears (Stairs). Although my Mothers side of the family didn’t originate from London, they seemed to take them on easily, and even after moving away, still used them.

So it is with me, I seem to have taken on these Phrases, and I too use them in the appropriate situation. When I feel like I have been dealt a bad deal, I may feel angry about it, or I can say “Make Lemons with Lemonade,” basically…use what I DO have to make the situation better.

If I feel like someone has wronged me, I can say, “What Goes Around, Comes Around,” because it truly does, I believe. Whether it is Karma, or just Coincidence, I have often found that bad done to others comes back to the person who commited the deed, and yes, I have had it come back to me.

So I come to the Phrase in the title of this Blog; “Fighting Fire with Fire”. While I have lived my life with other Phrases in mind, I haven’t with this one, although I have done precisely that, when someone has metaphorically thrown Fire at me, I have thrown it back at them. That is when I got to thinking about it, and it just doesn’t make sense.

In the Elements, Fire always beats Water, doesn’t it?

Fire is aggresive, angry, fiery and spreads, consuming all in it’s Path. Water can be aggresive and angry too…but in this case, it can also flow smoothly, calmly and peacefully, diminishing fire and washing away the debris caused by the flames. It soothes the heat and leaves only the smoke to float upwards, until that too dispels and is gone. Water is constant, in one way or another. Whether it is condensation, or just water in a puddle, it is always there, in one way or another. Fire though, only comes into being when it is created either by us or nature.

So, if I am in a “fight”, what should I do? I should not respond. When someone calls me wicked names, or tries their hardest to upset me, I should throw that metaphorical water over them. Deny them the power to burn and to spread. Put them out and let them wash away. I will continue on my journey, just like the Water.

It isn’t that anything has happened that has made me think of this, it’s just that sometimes, when I have a moment to myself (which doesn’t seem often these days) I sit and ponder, and today I had one of those moments.

Since I have arrived here, I have been struck by the excellent RP, the sense of Community and just a great “feeling” that I haven’t found anywhere else.

In RP now Donatelle is posed with a problem…does she upset and risk her already strained relationship with her Sister, who is eager to move on to somewhere new, or does move on?

Only time will tell!

Often, we come across someone from our past we had least expected to meet, and it feels like we had never lost touch…and this happened to me recently…and I am so pleased it did happen!

Second Life, which I wrote about in my last Blog, has it’s benefits and it’s drawbacks, but in it all, one can form friendships with someone, without having to know everything about them. The friendship is based purely on interaction, and some might argue this is beneficial, some might say it’s not. While it allows people to withhold things, often whatever it is they “withhold” is not that important in the grand scheme of things.

In a society where we seem to worship the revealing of everything, with magazines and television telling us the minute details of so called “Celebrities” lives, it can be refreshing to meet someone, and truly know nothing about them besides what you learn through discussing subjects, or like I do, Roleplaying. You can argue that you can do the same face to face, but I believe we are influenced by image and that in itself influences us in some way, shape or form.

But one of the people who had always been by my side is Twilight, who has been great to me, and is fantastic at Roleplaying. We lost touch for a while as I took a break and didn’t tell her, and yet last night, while RPing, it was like no time had gone at all.

And so, here is to finding friends, whether they be new ones, or old ones you find again!

So, I took a break from Gor, and from SL…and boy did it do me the world of good! I’ve come to realise that for many people, SL is not a Second life, it’s a First one…a replacing of our First, and REAL life, by a softer, more pliable, easily influenced Second Life. That was me…I buried my head in the sand and I ignored the real world. I revelled in what I thought was fun, when in reality it was a waste of my real life emotions. I buried my head in the sand and ignored pressing issues and concerns, I put people who I had never met before family and friends, and before myself.

The problem with having Second Life as a replacement for your REAL life, is what do you do when you turn off the PC? Well, for many, they just don’t. They sit for hours on end, they don’t eat properly, sleep properly or socialise. They surround themselves with deeper and deeper involvement in what is supposed to compliment their real life. They join Social Networking sites as the Avatar, they write long, drawn out posts about the turmoil they are going through because of some inane reasons.

A few weeks before I took my break, someone posted a link to a website on Gorean Forums. The link had in it a line “Pretendy Fun Time Games.”

While this might not make much sense, it stuck out to me. I started reading peoples blogs where they lament about the fact an RP Master has left them, or they write about how awful it is not getting this or that or whatnot. I started thinking “What are they here for?” Is it RP, Or is it something else. That made me question myself…why am I here? Why am I doing this. I wasn’t RPing, I wasn’t enjoying myself, I was spoiling my real life.

When I’m old and grey haired, what will I recall? What will I talk about? Second Life…I hope not. In an age when we rely on the internet more and more, I want to tell stories about real human interaction, which by then will probably be even more rare.

So I changed. I worked on myself, I sorted out my health, I looked for something to challenge me, and I got a new job. I start it today, and I’m so excited

Am I leaving SL? No. I will continue to RP, and I will continue to enjoy myself, I just will do it to compliment and enhance my real, physical life. When I feel creative, I might pick up a paintbrush, I might write a poem, or I might log on to Second Life and roleplay for a while, and that is how it’s going to be, and I can’t wait!
